Ulex adalah sejenis tumbuhan berbunga dalam Fabaceae keluarga. Genus ini terdiri daripada kira-kira 20 spesies tumbuhan semak hijau berduri di Faboideae subfamili keluarga Fabaceae kacang. Spesies ini berasal dari bahagian barat Eropah dan barat laut Afrika, dengan majoriti spesies di Iberia. Gorse berkait rapat dengan penyapu, dan seperti mereka, mempunyai batang hijau dan daun yang sangat kecil dan disesuaikan dengan keadaan pertumbuhan yang kering. Bagaimanapun, ia berbeza dengan tiruan yang melampau, pucuk diubahsuai menjadi duri bercabang 1-4 sentimeter panjang, yang hampir sepenuhnya menggantikan daun sebagai organ berfungsi organ fotosintesis.
