Haemophilia
Haemophilia adalah sekumpulan gangguan keturunan genetik yang menjejaskan keupayaan tubuh untuk mengawal pembekuan darah atau pembekuan darah, yang digunakan untuk menghentikan pendarahan ketika saluran darah pecah. Haemophilia A adalah bentuk gangguan yang paling umum, iaitu kira-kira 1 dalam 5,000-10,000 kelahiran lelaki. Haemophilia B berlaku pada sekitar 1 dalam kira-kira 20,000-34,000 kelahiran lelaki. Seperti kebanyakan hubungan seks berisiko resesif, gangguan kromosom X, haemophilia lebih cenderung berlaku pada lelaki daripada wanita. Ini kerana wanita mempunyai dua kromosom X manakala lelaki mempunyai hanya satu, jadi gen yang cacat dijamin untuk ditunjukkan dalam mana-mana lelaki yang membawa ia. Kerana perempuan mempunyai dua kromosom X dan haemophilia jarang berlaku, kemungkinan seorang wanita yang mempunyai dua salinan gen yang cacat sangat jauh, sehingga wanita hampir secara eksklusifnya adalah pembawa asymptomatic gangguan itu. Pembawa wanita boleh mewarisi gen yang cacat daripada sama ada ibu atau bapa mereka, atau mungkin mutasi baru.
