Hyperesthesia
Hyperesthesia adalah satu keadaan yang melibatkan peningkatan sensitiviti terhadap rangsangan akal. "Apabila rangsangan yang tidak berbahaya menyebabkan sensasi kesakitan, kawasan itu akan dinamakan hyperaesthetic". Stimuli deria dapat termasuk suara yang mendengar, makanan yang satu citarasa, tekstur yang dirasa, dan sebagainya. Sensitiviti sentuhan yang lebih tinggi dirujuk sebagai "hiperestesi sentuhan", dan kepekaan bunyi yang meningkat dipanggil "hyperesthesia pendengaran". Hyperesthesia taktikal boleh menjadi gejala biasa dari banyak gangguan neurologi seperti herpes zoster, neuropati periferal dan radiculopathies. Pada tahun 1979, dan pada tahun 1994, Merskey, Bogduk, Noordenbos, Devor dan lain-lain mencadangkan, bukannya hyperaestheia, konsep allodynia, yang bermaksud "kesakitan yang lain", ditakrifkan sebagai kesakitan yang disebabkan oleh rangsangan yang biasanya tidak menimbulkan kesakitan.
