Hyperpnea
Hyperpnea atau hyperpneea meningkatkan kedalaman bernafas apabila diperlukan untuk memenuhi permintaan metabolik tisu badan, seperti semasa atau selepas senaman, atau apabila badan tidak mempunyai oksigen, misalnya dalam ketinggian yang tinggi atau akibat anemia. Hyperpnea juga mungkin berlaku akibat sepsis, dan biasanya merupakan tanda permulaan sepsis refraktori. Tachypnea berbeza dengan hiperpnea dalam tachypnea itu adalah nafas cetek yang cepat, sementara hipperpnea amat nafas. Hyperpnoea tidak sama dengan hyperventilation. Dalam hyperpneea, peningkatan kadar pernafasan adalah wajar kerana ia memenuhi keperluan metabolik badan. Dalam hyperventilation, kadar pengudaraan tidak sesuai untuk keperluan tubuh.
