Hypogeal, hypogean, hypogeic dan hypogeous adalah istilah biologi yang menggambarkan aktiviti organisme di bawah permukaan tanah. Dalam botani, benih digambarkan sebagai percambahan percambahan hipogel apabila cotyledons benih bercambah kekal tidak fotosintetik, di dalam cangkang benih, dan di bawah tanah. Yang bercakap, di mana cotyledon berkembang, melepaskan cangkang kulit dan menjadi fotosintetik di atas tanah, adalah percambahan epigel. Dalam kerja pembersihan air, lapisan hipogel adalah filem biologi di bawah permukaan penapis pasir yang perlahan.
