Dalam bidang linguistik, fortis dan lenis adalah istilah yang biasa digunakan untuk merujuk kepada kumpulan konsonan yang dihasilkan dengan tenaga yang lebih besar dan lebih rendah, masing-masing, seperti penggunaan tenaga, artikulasi, dll. "Fortis" dan "lenis" dicipta sebagai istilah yang kurang menyesatkan untuk merujuk kontras konsonan dalam bahasa yang tidak menggunakan getaran lilitan vokal sebenar dalam konsonan "bersuara" mereka tetapi sebaliknya melibatkan jumlah "kekuatan artikulatori". Sebagai contoh, bahasa Jermanik seperti bahasa Inggeris, bahasa Belanda, dan bahasa Jerman mempunyai konsonan "fortis" yang memperlihatkan penutupan yang lebih lama dan lebih pendek daripada huruf vokal daripada "lenis" mereka. "Tegang" dan "longgar" juga merupakan alternatif yang biasa. Istilah-istilah ini adalah sangat impresionistik. Dalam kebanyakan kes, perbezaan sebenar biasanya merupakan suara, panjang, aspirasi, kehadiran atau ketiadaan artikulasi sekunder seperti glottalization atau velarization, panjang vokal yang berdekatan, atau gabungan beberapa ciri tersebut.
