Anemia megaloblastik
Anemia megaloblastik (atau anemia megaloblastik) adalah anemia (klasifikasi makrocytik) yang terhasil daripada penghambatan sintesis DNA semasa pengeluaran sel darah merah. Apabila sintesis DNA terjejas, kitaran sel tidak dapat berkembang dari peringkat pertumbuhan G2 ke tahap mitosis (M). Ini membawa kepada pertumbuhan sel yang berterusan tanpa pembahagian, yang memperlihatkan sebagai makrocytosis. Anemia megaloblastik mempunyai permulaan yang agak perlahan, terutamanya jika dibandingkan dengan anemia lain. Kecacatan dalam sintesis DNA sel merah paling kerap disebabkan oleh hipovitaminosis, khususnya kekurangan vitamin B12 dan / atau asid folik. Kekurangan vitamin B12 sahaja tidak akan menyebabkan sindrom dengan kehadiran folat yang mencukupi, kerana mekanisme kehilangan kitar semula folat bergantung pada B12, diikuti dengan kehilangan folat dalam sintesis asid nukleik (khususnya thymine), yang mengakibatkan kecacatan dalam sintesis DNA. Suplemen asid folik dalam ketiadaan vitamin B12 menghalang jenis anemia ini (walaupun patologi vitamin B12 yang lain terus). Kehilangan mikronutrien juga boleh menjadi punca.
