Melanisme
Melanisme adalah perkembangan melanin pigmen berwarna gelap di dalam kulit atau lampirannya dan bertentangan dengan albinisme. Dari segi sejarah, ia juga merupakan istilah perubatan untuk penyakit kuning hitam. Perkataan melanisme disimpulkan dari bahasa Yunani: μελανός, yang bermaksud "pigmen hitam". Pseudo-melanisme, juga disebut kelimpahan, adalah satu lagi variasi pigmentasi, yang dicirikan oleh bintik-bintik gelap atau jalur yang diperbesar, yang meliputi sebahagian besar badan haiwan itu, menjadikannya melanistik. Kekurangan atau ketidakhadiran pigmen melanin dipanggil amelanisme. Pemendapan yang mengerikan mengenai masalah kulit hitam, selalunya sifat ganas yang menyebabkan tumor berpigmen, dipanggil melanosis.
