Overture dalam muzik adalah istilah yang pada mulanya digunakan untuk pengenalan instrumental kepada opera. Semasa era Romantis awal, para komposer seperti Beethoven dan Mendelssohn mula menggunakan istilah itu untuk merujuk kepada karya-karya yang berperikemanusiaan yang mandiri dan berinisiatif yang mempersembahkan genre seperti puisi simfoni.
