Pelagianisme
Pelagianisme adalah kepercayaan bahawa dosa asal tidak merosakkan sifat manusia dan kehendak fana masih mampu memilih baik atau jahat tanpa bantuan Ilahi yang istimewa. Teori teologi ini dinamai oleh Pelagius, walaupun ia menafikan, sekurang-kurangnya pada satu ketika dalam hidupnya, banyak doktrin yang dikaitkan dengan namanya. Ajaran Pelagius pada umumnya dikaitkan dengan penolakan dosa asal dan amalan pembaptisan bayi. Walaupun tulisan-tulisan Pelagius tidak lagi ada, lapan kanon Majlis Carthage memberikan pembetulan kepada kesilapan-kesilapan yang dilihat dari Pelagians awal. Pembetulan ini termasuk: ▪ Kematian tidak datang kepada Adam dari keperluan fizikal, tetapi melalui dosa. Anak-anak yang baru lahir mesti dibaptiskan kerana dosa asal. ▪ Membenarkan rahmat bukan hanya untuk mendapatkan pengampunan dosa-dosa masa lalu, tetapi juga memberikan bantuan untuk mengelakkan dosa-dosa masa depan. ▪ Anugerah Kristus tidak hanya mendedahkan pengetahuan tentang perintah Tuhan, tetapi juga memberikan kekuatan kepada kehendak dan melaksanakannya. ▪ Tanpa rahmat Tuhan, ini bukan sekadar lebih sukar, tetapi benar-benar mustahil untuk melakukan kerja yang baik.
