Pentarchy
"Pentarchy" adalah istilah dalam sejarah Kekristianan untuk gagasan pemerintahan sejagat di atas semua kekristenan oleh ketua-ketua dari lima episcopal utama yang melihat Kerajaan Roma: Rom, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, dan Yerusalem. Idea itu timbul disebabkan oleh keunggulan politik dan gereja dari lima pandangan ini, tetapi konsep autoriti universal dan eksklusifnya terikat dengan struktur pentadbiran Empayar Rom. Idea awal ini mula-mula dinyatakan dalam undang-undang Maharaja Justinian I, khususnya di Novella 131. Majlis Quinisext 692 memberikan pengiktirafan rasmi dan menduduki ranking yang paling utama. Terutama mengikuti Quinisext, pentarchy itu sekurang-kurangnya diterima secara falsafah dalam Kristian Timur, tetapi secara amnya bukan di Barat, yang menolak Majlis.
