Orang Pondo
Pondo atau Phondo adalah kumpulan etnis berbahasa Xhosa yang telah memberikan nama mereka kepada Pondoland, sebuah sub-rantau yang merangkumi kebanyakan pantai utara Wilayah Timur Cape, Afrika Selatan. Pondo terdiri daripada beberapa kumpulan puak, dan selepas tahun asimilasi, biasanya dikelaskan sebagai subkumpulan amaXhosa. Wilayah mereka telah dilampirkan secara aman ke Cape Colony pada tahun 1884: kerja misi telah dimulakan pada tahun 1873 atas inisiatif Henry Callaway, Uskup Kaffraria St John. Pondo Revolt adalah hasil daripada rintangan orang Pondo terhadap pelaksanaan Akta Pihak Berkuasa Bantu, sebahagian daripada undang-undang Apartheid. Di bawah ideologi Apartheid, pembangunan berasingan pelbagai kumpulan etnik Afrika Selatan telah dicadangkan dan sebahagiannya adalah untuk memisahkan orang Afrika hitam menjadi 'tanah air' yang diberikan kemerdekaan dari Afrika Selatan. Transkei adalah tanah air yang menggabungkan seluruh Pondoland dan rakyatnya, di samping suku-suku Xhosa yang lain seperti Gcaleka, dalam apa yang dulu menjadi wilayah timur Provinsi Cape.
