Shah
Šâh adalah gelaran yang diberikan kepada kaisar / raja dan tuan-tuan Iran a.k.a. Persia. Di Iran gelaran itu terus digunakan; bukannya Raja dalam erti Eropah, setiap pemerintah Parsi menganggap dirinya sebagai Šâhanšâh atau Kaisar Empayar Parsi. Di Pakistan dan India, gelaran tersebut digunakan oleh penguasa Mughal. Perkataan itu turun dari Persia Lama Xšâyathiya "raja", yang mesti dipinjam dari Median, dan berasal dari akar yang sama seperti Avestan xša'ra-, "kuasa" dan "perintah", sepadan dengan Sanskrit kṣatra-, dari mana kṣatriya-, "pahlawan", diperolehi. Gelaran Persia Parahyatan Lama dari para pemimpin Achaemenid Empayar Parsi Pertama adalah Xšâyathiya Xšâyathiyânâm atau Šâhe Šâhân, "Raja Raja" atau "Kaisar". Nama keluarga India Shah mempunyai sumber yang berbeza.
