Petrels ribut adalah burung laut dalam keluarga Hydrobatidae, sebahagian daripada perintah Procellariiformes. Ini burung laut paling kecil yang memakan krustasea planktonik dan ikan kecil yang dipilih dari permukaan, biasanya semasa berlegar. Penerbangan mereka berkedip dan kadang-kadang kelawar. Petrels ribut mempunyai pengedaran kosmopolitan, yang terdapat di semua lautan. Mereka tegas pelagis, datang ke tanah hanya apabila pembiakan.
