Hormon tiroid, triiodothyronine dan prohormone, thyroxine, adalah hormon yang berasaskan tyrosin yang dihasilkan oleh kelenjar tiroid yang bertanggungjawab terutamanya untuk pengawalan metabolisme. Iodin diperlukan untuk pengeluaran T3 dan T4. Kekurangan iodin membawa kepada penurunan pengeluaran T3 dan T4, membesarkan tisu tiroid dan akan menyebabkan penyakit itu dikenali sebagai goitre.
