V-cip adalah istilah generik untuk teknologi yang digunakan dalam alat penerima televisyen di Kanada, Brazil dan Amerika Syarikat, yang membenarkan penyekatan program berdasarkan kategori penarafan mereka. Ia bertujuan untuk digunakan oleh ibu bapa untuk menguruskan tontonan televisyen anak-anak mereka. Televisyen yang dihasilkan untuk pasaran Amerika Syarikat sejak tahun 1999 dan semua unit pada Januari 2000 dikehendaki mempunyai teknologi cip V. Idea untuk menyekat program dengan cara ini telah dipatenkan oleh Brett West dan John P. Gardner pada tahun 1994 dan diuji di Kanada. Sejak itu banyak peranti yang menggunakan teknologi V-cip telah dihasilkan. Teknologi cip-cip berfungsi seperti keterangan tertutup dan menggunakan jarak selang menegak dalam isyarat televisyen. Sistem ini menerima kod khas dalam isyarat penyiaran yang menunjukkan skor pertunjukan mengikut sistem penarafan berangka mudah untuk keganasan, seks dan bahasa. Isyarat program dikodkan mengikut penarafan mereka, pada baris 21 selang pengosongan menegak isyarat siaran menggunakan protokol XDS, dan ini dikesan oleh cip V set televisyen.
