Negara majoriti Islam biasanya mempunyai hujung minggu Khamis-Jumaat atau Jumaat-Sabtu. Kalendar Revolusi Perancis mempunyai sepuluh hari minggu dan membenarkan décadi, satu daripada sepuluh hari, sebagai hari libur. Konsep hari hujung minggu ini mula-mula timbul dari Sabat Yahudi. Hari Sabat Kristian hanya satu hari setiap minggu, tetapi hari sebelumnya telah diambil sebagai hari libur juga pada abad kedua puluh.
