१. चार मनुष्यों अथवा पदार्थों का समूह ।
जैसे,—(क) राम, भरत, लक्ष्मण और शत्रुघ्न । (ख) कृष्ण,
बलदेव, प्रद्युम्न और अनिरुद्ध । (ग) संसार, संसार का हेतु,
मोक्ष, और मोक्ष का उपाय । २. विष्णु ।
विशेष—विष्णुसहस्त्रानाम के भाष्यकार के अनुसार विष्णु के
शरीरपुरुष, छंदपुरुष, वेदपुरुष और महापुरुष चार रूप हैं ।
और पुराणों के अनुसार ब्रह्मा ने सृष्टि के कार्यों के लिये वासु-
देव, संकर्षण, प्रद्युम्न और अनिरुद्ध इन चार रूपों में अवतार
लिया था; हसलिये उन्हें चतुर्व्यूह कहते हैं ।
