Keabnormalan
Abnormal adalah ciri-ciri yang ditetapkan secara subjektif, diberikan pada mereka dengan keadaan difungsi atau jarang. Menetapkan siapa yang normal dan tidak normal adalah isu yang dipertikaikan dalam psikologi abnormal. Terdapat beberapa kriteria biasa. Satu kriteria mudah adalah jarang secara statistik. Ini mempunyai satu kelemahan — yang amat bijak, jujur, atau gembira adalah sama abnormal seperti yang sebaliknya. Dengan itu, tabiat abnormal dianggap jarang secara statistik dan juga tidak diingini. Criteria yang lebih terperinci adalah resah. Seseorang yang menunjukkan keadaan muram, bimbang, murung, dll dianggap tidak normal. Malangnya, ramai yang tidak menyedari keadaan mental mereka sendiri, dan sementara mereka mungkin dapat dibantu, mereka tidak merasa perlu mendapatkannya. Kriteria lain adalah moral. Ini memberikan banyak masaalah kerana ia mustahil bagi mencapai persetujuan bati satu set moral untuk tujuan diagnosis. Satu kriteria yang sring digunakan adalah maladaptiviti. Sekiranya seseorang berkelakuan dalam bentuk memburukkan keadaan mereka, ia dianggap maladaptive. Walaupun ia lebih ketat berbanding kriteria di atas, ia turut mempunyai kelemahan.
