Boyan
Boyan atau Bawean adalah sebuah pulau yang terletak di Laut Jawa, sekitar 150 kilometer sebelah utara Pulau Jawa. Di Indonesia, pulau ini terletak dalam Kabupaten Gresik, Provinsi Jawa Timur. Bandar terbesarnya adalah Sangkapura selain juga Tambak. Bawean memiliki dua kecamatan iaitu Sangkapura dan Tambak. Jumlah penduduknya sekitar 70,000 orang, kebanyakannya menjadikan nelayan dan petani sebagai mata pencarian. Ramai yang menjadi perantau di Singapura atau Malaysia. Penduduk Bawean tergolong dari Suku Bawean, diikuti oleh Suku Jawa dan suku-suku lain misalnya Bugis dan Mandailing. Kata
Bawean berasal dari bahasa Sanskrit, yang bererti
ada sinar matahari. Menurut legenda, sekitar tahun 1350, sekumpulan pelaut dari Kerajaan Majapahit dilanda ribut di Laut Jawa dan akhirnya terdampar di Pulau Bawean ketika matahari terbit. Pada awal abad ke-16, agama Islam masuk ke Bawean yang dibawa oleh Maulana Umar Mas'ud. Makamnya hingga kini menjadi tumpuan pelawat tempatan mahupun dari luar Bawean. Bawean sering disebut juga Pulau Puteri kerana ramai kaum lelaki mudanya yang merantau ke pulau Jawa atau ke luar negeri.
