CPU atau unit pemprosesan pusat ialah salah satu bahagian di dalam komputer yang menterjemah dan melaksanakan arahan dalam perisian. Dalam kebanyakan CPU, tugas perlaksanaan ini dibahagi kepada Unit Pengawal , dan satu atau lebih Unit Pelaksana yang melakukan operasi terhadap data. Selalunya, satu koleksi daftar disertakan sekali bagi menyimpan operator dan hasil proses. Istilah unit pemprosesan pusat juga merujuk kepada bahagian-bahagian pusat yang penting di dalam komputer, seperti cache dan pengawal input/output. Ini merujuk kepada komputer yang menggunakan cip mikropemproses moden. Fungsi-fungsi tersebut disertakan di dalam litar bersepadu. Kebiasaanya, pembekal/pengeluar komputer meja sering menggunakan istilah CPU untuk merujuk kepada kotak atau badan komputer dan kandungannya. Penggunaan CPU di sini adalah kurang tepat dan mengelirukan. Reka bentuk CPU sering disebut sebagai seni bina CPU.
