Genus

Dalam biologi, genus merupakan kelompok dalam pengkelasan organisma hidup yang mempunyai lebih dari satu spesies yang serupa dari segi morfologi. Dalam tatanama binomial biasa, nama organisma terdiri daripada genusnya dan penentu spesies. Sebagai contoh Homo sapiens, nama untuk spesies manusia yang tergolong dalam genus Homo. Lihat pengelasan saintifik untuk butiran terperinci sistem ini. Genus jenis "Type Genus" untuk taxon merupakan genus pertama diberi nama dan digambarkan. Keluarga dan, dalam tumbuhan, semua taxa sehingga ke pembahagian biologi dinamakan menurut genus jenis. Genus dan taxa ini diwakili oleh spesimen yang menunjukkan ciri-ciri khusus genus tersebut. Specimen yang digunakan untuk spesies ini disimpan sebagai holotype dalam muzium zoologikal atau herbarium untuk penyelidikan lanjut. Nama genus dalam satu alam boleh sama dengan genus atau nama taxon lain dalam alam lain. Sebagai contoh, Anura merupakan genus tumbuhan dan juga aturan katak; Aotus merupakan kacang dan monyet.
