Schutzstaffel merupakan sebuah organisasi besar separa tentera yang berada dibawah Adolf Hitler dan Parti Nazi. Ia bermula pada penghujung tahun 1920 sebagai sebuah unit kecil pengawal tetap yang dikenali "Saal-Schutz", dibentuk dari sukarelawan NSDAP bagi menjaga keselamatan mesyuarat-mesyuarat Parti Nazi di Munich. Selepas itu pada tahun 1925, Heinrich Himmler menyertai unit ini yang kemudian diperbaharui dan dinamakan semula "Schutzstaffel". Dibawah kepimpinan Himmler, ia berkembang dari sebuah formasi kecil kepada satu organisasi terbesar dan paling berkuasa dalam Reich Ketiga. Dibina berasaskan ideologi Nazi, SS dibawah pemerintahan Himmler telah bertanggungjawab bagi kebanyakkan jenayah menentang kemanusiaan semasa Perang Dunia II. SS,bersama-sama Parti Nazi, telah diisytiharkan sebuah organisasi jenayah oleh Tribunal Tentera Antarabangsa dan diharamkan di Jerman selepas tahun 1945.
