Potocznie astralonem nazywa się każde tworzywo sztuczne wykorzystywane do tych samych zastosowań co astralon, przy czym dzisiaj jest ono najczęściej wykonane z innego materiału o podobnych właściwościach, ale przy zwiększonej elastyczności.
