Anil adalah warna cahaya antara 450 dan 480 nanometer panjang gelombang, terletak di antara biru dan ungu. Seperti banyak warna lain, asal nama itu berasal dari objek semulajadi - tumbuhan indigo. Oleh etimologi, penghasil bahasa Arab dan nada Parsi. Anil bukan warna utama, bukan aditif atau subtraktif. Ia dibaptiskan dan ditakrifkan oleh Isaac Newton apabila ahli fizik Inggeris membahagi spektrum optik dan tujuh warna yang dibezakan untuk menyambungkannya ke planet, hari dalam seminggu, nota dalam oktaf dan senarai lain dengan tujuh elemen. Mata manusia agak tidak sensitif kepada kekerapan indigo, begitu banyak yang tidak dapat membezakannya daripada biru atau ungu. Atas sebab ini dan lain-lain, banyak yang berpendapat bahawa indigo tidak boleh dianggap sebagai warna per se tetapi sebaliknya variasi biru atau ungu. Warna boleh didapati dengan menambahkan cyan, magenta dan kuning dalam cetakan grafik, tetapi tanpa dakwat hitam.

Anil é a cor da luz entre 450 e 480 nanómetros de comprimento de onda, localizada entre o azul e o violeta. Assim como muitas outras cores, a origem do nome provém de um objecto natural - a planta índigo. Pela etimologia, do árabe annir e do persa nil. O anil não é uma cor primária, nem aditiva, nem subtractiva. Foi baptizada e definida por Isaac Newton quando o físico inglês dividiu o espectro óptico e distinguiu sete cores a fim de as ligar aos planetas, dias da semana, notas na oitava e outras listas com sete elementos. O olho humano é relativamente insensível à frequência do anil, tanto que muitos não conseguem distingui-lo do azul ou do violeta. Por essa e outras razões, muitos defendem que o anil não deve ser considerado uma cor propriamente dita mas sim uma variação do azul ou do violeta. A cor pode ser obtida somando-se o ciano, magenta e amarelo na impressão gráfica, mas sem a tinta preta.
