Gelaran Celsius menunjuk unit suhu, dinamakan sempena ahli astronomi Sweden Anders Celsius, yang pertama kali mencadangkannya pada 1742. Skala suhu Celsius mempunyai dua titik penting, di mana titik pembekuan air sepadan dengan sifar dan titik didih sepadan dengan nilai 100, diperhatikan pada tekanan atmosfera standard, juga dipanggil tekanan biasa. Oleh kerana terdapat seratus tamat pengajian di antara kedua-dua titik rujukan ini, istilah asal sistem ini adalah berpilin atau seratus. Pada tahun 1948, nama sistem telah diubahsuai secara rasmi untuk Celsius semasa Persidangan Berat dan Langkah Umum ke-9, kedua-duanya sebagai pengiktirafan Celsius dan untuk menghapuskan kekeliruan yang disebabkan oleh konflik penggunaan awalan SI centi.
