Lotos atau pokok teratai adalah tumbuhan yang hebat yang muncul dalam dua sejarah mitologi Yunani: Odisseia dan Homero dan dalam Metamorfoses dan Fasti of Ovid, yang juga disebut dalam Buku Kerja [3] Lama Perjanjian, oleh Pliny yang Lama [4] dan oleh Muhammad. Odisseu foi rapidamente embora desta ilha, antes que os outros homens comessem o lotos e não quisessem mais voltar para casa.[5] [6] O termo lotófago é por isso aplicado a alguém que leva uma vida despreocupada e de luxúria.[1] Em Fasti, Ovídio narra uma história de quase violação da ninfa Lótis, que dormia sob efeitos do álcool.
