Alotropia
Allotropia lub alotropizm (z greckiego ἄλλος (allos), czyli "inny" i τρόπος (tropos), czyli "sposób, forma") jest własnością pewnych elementów chemicznych istniejących w dwóch lub więcej różnych formach, zwanych allotropami tych elementy. Przyrostami są różne modyfikacje strukturalne elementu; atomy elementu są połączone w inny sposób. Na przykład, alotropy węgla obejmują diament (gdzie atomy węgla są połączone ze sobą w układzie sieci tetraedrycznych), grafit (gdzie atomy węgla są połączone ze sobą w arkusze siatki sześciokątnej), grafen (pojedyncze arkusze grafitu) i fullereny (gdzie atomy węgla są połączone ze sobą w sferycznych, cylindrycznych lub elipsoidalnych formacjach). Allotropia odnosi się tylko do różnych form elementu w tej samej fazie (tj. Różnych formach stałych, ciekłych lub gazowych); te różne stany nie są same, uważane za przykłady alotropii.
