W fizyce backscatter jest odbiciem fal, cząstek lub sygnałów z powrotem do kierunku, z którego pochodzą. Jest to rozproszone odbicie z powodu rozproszenia, w przeciwieństwie do odbicia lustrzanego. Backscattering ma ważne zastosowania w astronomii, fotografii i ultrasonografii medycznej.
