Pierś

Pierś piersiowa jest górnym odcinkiem brzusznym tułowia prymasu, w lewym i prawym boku, zawierającym gruczoł sutkowy, który u samic może wydzielać mleko stosowane do karmienia niemowląt. Zarówno mężczyźni jak i kobiety rozwijają piersi z tych samych tkanek embrionalnych. Jednak w okresie dojrzewania, kobiece hormony płciowe, głównie estrogen, wspierają rozwój piersi, co nie występuje u mężczyzn ze względu na większą ilość testosteronu. W rezultacie kobiety piersi stają się znacznie bardziej widoczne niż mężczyźni. Podczas ciąży piersi reaguje na złożoną interakcję hormonów, które powodują rozwój tkanki i powiększenie w celu wytworzenia mleka. Trzy takie hormony to estrogeny, progesteron i prolaktyna, które powodują gruczolakową tkankę w piersi i macica zmieniają się podczas cyklu miesiączkowego. Każda piersi zawiera 15-20 klaczy. Tkankę podskórną tkanki tłuszczowej pokrywającej płaty daje piersi jej rozmiar i kształt. Każdy płat składa się z wielu lobule, na końcu których znajdują się woreczki, w których mleko jest wytwarzane w odpowiedzi na sygnały hormonalne.
