Broadcloth jest gęstą, prostą tkaniną, historycznie wykonaną z wełny. Dzisiaj najbardziej szerokim obrusem jest bawełna lub mieszanina bawełny. Charakterystyczną cechą produktu Broadcloth nie jest jego ostateczna szerokość, ale fakt, że został on tkany znacznie szerzej, a następnie silnie zmielony, aby zmniejszyć go do wymaganej szerokości. To było wtedy pełne, zwykle w pełnym młynie. Po wypełnieniu włókna tkaniny będą czuć się razem, powodując gładką powierzchnię.
