Katechol
Katechol, znany również jako pirokatechol lub 1,2-dihydroksybenzen, jest związkiem organicznym o wzorze cząsteczkowym C6H42. Jest izomerem orto trzech izomerycznych benzenodioli. Ten bezbarwny związek występuje naturalnie w śladowych ilościach. Po raz pierwszy odkryto destrukcyjną destylację ekstraktu roślinnego katechin. Około 20 milionów kg jest syntetycznie wytwarzanych corocznie jako podstawowa chemia organiczna, głównie jako prekursor pestycydów, środków smakowych i zapachowych. Katechol występuje w postaci białych pierzastych kryształów, które są bardzo szybko rozpuszczalne w wodzie.
