Ceanothus L. / ˌsiːənoʊθəs / rodzaj ok. 50-60 gatunków krzewów lub małych drzew z rodziny Rhamnaceae. Rodzaj jest ograniczony do Ameryki Północnej, z centrum dystrybucji w Kalifornii. Niektóre gatunki występują we wschodnich Stanach Zjednoczonych i południowo-wschodniej Kanadzie, a inne rozciągają się tak daleko na południe, jak Gwatemala. Większość z nich to krzewy o wysokości 0,5-3 m, ale C. arboreus i C. thyrsiflorus, zarówno z Kalifornii, mogą stanowić małe drzewa o wysokości do 6-7 m. Nazwa wywodzi się od greckiego słowa κεανοθος, który został zastosowany przez Teofrasta do krętego, starego świata rośliny, uważanej za Cirsium arvense.
