Konwencjonalizm jest filozoficzną postawą, że podstawowe zasady pewnego rodzaju są oparte na umowach w społeczeństwie, a nie na zewnętrznej rzeczywistości. Chociaż ta postawa jest powszechnie stosowana w odniesieniu do zasad gramatyki, jej stosowanie do postaw etycznych, prawa, nauki, matematyki i logiki jest bardziej kontrowersyjne.
