Veronicastrum virginicum (korzeń Culvera, Culver's-root, Culverpsyic, fizyka Culvera, korzeń Bowmana, czernica, syn Leptandra virginica (L.) Nutt., Veronica virginica L.) jest naturalnym gatunkiem dzikich zwierząt w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Veronicastrum virginicum to wzniesione wieloletnie ziele, które rośnie o wysokości 80-200 cm. Liście są ząbkowane i rozmieszczone w kole okrągłych 3-7 wokół łodygi. Kwiatostan jest wyprostowany z gładkimi, przypominającymi kolczaste racemesami. Pręciki są zatłoczone i wystają w sposób podobny do pędzla prostopadły do racemu. Korale są białe i mają grubość około 2 mm. na długość. Te rośliny kwiat od połowy lata do wczesnego upadku. Korzeń Culvera jest często spotykany w preriach mokrych na mokrej nawierzchni, a czasami na obszarach wilgotnych.
