Oryginalny scenariusz sumeryjski został przystosowany do pisania języków Akadyjski, Eblaite, Elamite, Hittite, Luwian, Hattian, Urartian i inspirował algorytm Ugaritic i Old Persian. Pismo Cuneiform zostało stopniowo zastąpione alfabetem fenickim podczas imperium neoasilskiego.
