Dendrytu
Dendryty są odgałęzionymi projekcjami neuronu, które działają na propagowanie stymulacji elektrochemicznej otrzymanej z innych komórek nerwowych do ciała komórkowego lub soma, z neuronu, z którego projekt dendrytów. Stymulacja elektryczna jest przenoszona na dendryty przez neurony górne poprzez synapsy, które znajdują się w różnych punktach w drzewie dendrytycznym. Dendryty odgrywają decydującą rolę w integracji tych synaptycznych wejść i określeniu stopnia, w jakim potencjały działania są wytwarzane przez neuron. Długie zrosty w komórkach dendrytycznych układu immunologicznego nazywają się również dendrytami. Nie należy ich mylić z dendrytów na neuronie. Komórki dendrytyczne są komórkami prezentującymi antygen w układzie immunologicznym ssaka. Ich dendryty nie przetwarzają sygnałów elektrycznych. Dendryty są jednym z dwóch typów wypukłości protoplazmatycznych, które wydobywają się z ciała komórki neuronu, a drugi jest aksonem. Axony można odróżnić od dendrytów o kilka elementów, w tym kształtu, długości i funkcji. Dendryty często zwężają się w kształt i są krótsze, a aksony mają tendencję do utrzymywania stałego promienia i są stosunkowo długie.
