Przekątna to linia łącząca dwa nieokreślone wierzchołki wieloboku lub wielościanu. Nieformalnie, dowolna nachylona linia nazywa się przekątną. Słowo "przekątna" pochodzi od starogreckiego διαγώνιος diagonios "od kąta do kąta"; używane przez zarówno Strabo, jak i Euklides odnoszą się do linii łączącej dwa wierzchołki rombu lub sześcianu, a później przyjęte w łacinę jako diagon. W matematyce, oprócz jej znaczenia geometrycznego, przekątna jest również stosowana w matrycach, odnosząc się do zestawu wpisów wzdłuż linii przekątnej.
