Holenderska choroba Elm jest spowodowana przez członka grzybów stawowych dotykających drzew elmowych i jest rozprzestrzeniona przez chrząszcz korowatych. Chociaż pierwotnie pochodzi z Azji, choroba została przypadkowo wprowadzona do Ameryki i Europy, gdzie doszło do zniszczenia rodzimych populacji jeleni, które nie miały możliwości wyhodowania oporności na tę chorobę.
