Ślimaki są grupą zwierząt morskich. Dorośli są rozpoznawani przez ich radialną symetrię i obejmują tak znane zwierzęta jak rozgwiazdy, jeżowce, piaskowe dolary i ogórki morskie. Ślimaki są znalezione na każdej głębokości oceanu, od strefy pływów do strefy otchłaniania. Szkodniki są ważne zarówno biologicznie, jak i geologicznie. Biologicznie, nie ma jeszcze innych grup tak obfitych w biotycznej pustyni na głębokim morzu, jak i na płytkich oceanach.
