Tryb normalny
Normalny tryb oscylacyjny jest wzorem ruchu, w którym wszystkie części układu poruszają się sinusoidalnie z tą samą częstotliwością iz relacją fazy stałej. Ruch opisany w normalnych trybach nazywa się rezonansem. Częstotliwości normalnych trybów systemu są znane jako częstotliwości naturalne lub częstotliwości rezonansowe. Obiekt fizyczny, taki jak budynek, most lub molekuła, ma zestaw normalnych trybów, które zależą od struktury, materiałów i warunków brzegowych. W odniesieniu do muzyki zwykłe tryby wibrujących instrumentów nazywają się "harmonicznymi" lub "tonami". Najbardziej ogólnym ruchem systemu jest superpozycja jego normalnych trybów. Tryby są normalne w tym sensie, że mogą poruszać się niezależnie, to znaczy, że pobudzenie jednego trybu nigdy nie powoduje ruchu innego trybu. W terminologii matematycznej tryby normalności są prostopadłe do siebie. Koncepcja trybów normalnych znajduje również zastosowanie w teorii fal, optyce, mechanice kwantowej i dynamiki molekularnej.
