Endomorfizm
W matematyce endomorfizm jest morfizmem (lub homomorfizmem) od obiektu matematycznego. Na przykład endomorfizm przestrzeni wektora V jest liniową mapą ƒ: V → V, a endomorfizmem grupy G jest homomorfizm grupowy ƒ: G → G. Ogólnie rzecz biorąc, możemy mówić o endomorphismsach w dowolnej kategorii. W kategorii zestawów endomorfizmy są funkcjami z zestawu S do siebie. W każdej kategorii skład którejkolwiek z dwóch endomorfizmów X jest ponownie endomorfizmem X. Wynika stąd, że zestaw wszystkich endomorfizmów X tworzy monoid, oznaczony jako End (X) (lub EndC (X), aby podkreślić kategorię C) . Inwersyjny endomorfizm X nazywa się automorfizmem. Zbiór wszystkich automorfizmów jest podgrupą Koniec (X) z konstrukcją grupy, zwaną grupą automorfizmu X i oznaczoną przez Aut (X). Na poniższym diagramie strzałki oznaczają implikację: Każde dwa endomorfizmy grupy abelianów A mogą być dodane przez regułę (ƒ + g) (a) = ƒ (a) + g (a).
