Śródbłonek
Śródbłonkiem jest cienka warstwa komórek, która łączy powierzchnię wewnętrzną naczyń krwionośnych i naczyń limfatycznych, tworząc złącze między krwionośną krążącą lub limfą w świetle i reszcie ściany naczynia. Komórki tworzące śródbłonek nazywane są komórkami śródbłonka. Komórki śródbłonka w bezpośrednim kontakcie z krwią nazywają się naczyniowymi komórkami śródbłonka, podczas gdy osoby mające bezpośredni kontakt z limfą są znane jako limfatyczne komórki śródbłonka. Komórkowe komórki śródbłonka łączą cały układ krążenia od serca do najmniejszych naczyń włosowatych. Komórki te mają bardzo odmienne i unikalne funkcje, które są najważniejsze dla biologii naczyniowej. Funkcje te obejmują filtrację płynną, taką jak kłębuszki nerki, ton naczynia krwionośnego, hemostazę, rekrutację neutrofilów i handel hormonem. Śródbłonek wewnętrznych powierzchni komór serca jest nazywana endosardium.
