Eozynochłonny granulocyt
Granulocyty Eozynofili, zwane zwykle eozynofilem lub eozynofilem, to białe krwinki krwi i jeden z elementów układu odpornościowego odpowiedzialny za zwalczanie pasożytów wielopostaciowych i niektórych zakażeń u kręgowców. Wraz z komórkami tucznymi kontrolują także mechanizmy związane z alergią i astmą. Są to granulocyty, które rozwijają się podczas krwinek czerwonych w szpiku kostnym przed migracją do krwi. Komórki te są eozynofilowe lub "kochają kwaśne", jak pokazano na ich powinowactwie do barwników smoły węglowej: zwykle przezroczyste, to właśnie ten powinowactwo powoduje, że pojawiają się ceglasto-czerwone po barwieniu eozyną, czerwonym barwnikiem, stosując metodę Romanowsky'ego. Barwienie jest skoncentrowane w małych granulkach wewnątrz cytoplazmy komórkowej, które zawierają wiele mediatorów chemicznych, takich jak histaminy i białka, takie jak peroksydaza eozynofilowa, rybonukleaza, dezoksyrybonukleazy, lipaza, plazminogen i główne podstawowe białko. Te mediatory są uwalniane w procesie zwanym degranulacją po aktywacji eozynofili i są toksyczne dla zarówno pasożytów, jak i tkanek gospodarza. W normalnych przypadkach eozynofile stanowią około 1-6% białych krwinek i mają rozmiar około 12-17 mikrometrów.
