Gerbera
Gerbera L. jest rodzajem ozdobnych roślin z rodziny słoneczników. Został nazwany na cześć niemieckiego botanisty i przyrodnika Traugotta Gerbera, który podróżował po Rosji i był przyjacielem Carolusa Linnaeusa. Ma około 30 gatunków na wolności, rozciągających się do Ameryki Południowej, Afryki i Azji tropikalnej. Pierwszy naukowy opis Gerbery został sporządzony przez J.D. Hooker w czasopiśmie botanicznym Curtis w 1889 roku, kiedy opisywał Gerbera jamesonii, gatunek Afryki Południowej znany również jako daisy Transvaal lub Barberton Daisy. Gerbera jest również powszechnie znany jako Daisy Afryki. Gatunki Gerbery posiadają dużą kapitalię z uderzającymi, dwukrotnie promienionymi kwiatami w kolorach żółtym, pomarańczowym, białym, różowym lub czerwonym. Kapitulum, które ma wygląd pojedynczego kwiatu, składa się z setek pojedynczych kwiatów. Morfologia kwiatów różni się w zależności od ich położenia w kapitolu. Głowy kwiatów mogą mieć wielkość 7 cm lub 12 cm. Gerbera jest bardzo popularna i szeroko stosowana jako ozdobna roślina ogrodowa lub jako kwiaty cięte.
