Złoto, Hiodon alosoides, jest gatunkiem ryb z rodziny mooneyów. Występuje od spodu Mackenzie jako Aklavik na północy do Missisipi na południu, a od Alberta na zachodzie do Ohio na południe od Wielkich Jezior, z izolowaną populacją na południe od zatoki James Bay. Warto zauważyć, że w oczach widoczna jest złocista irys. Lubi mętne, powolne poruszanie się wód jezior i rzek, gdzie żywią się owady, skorupiaki, ryby, żaby, łapy i myszy. Ryba średnio wynosi mniej niż 1 funta lub 12 w długości, ale w niektórych jeziorach może znajdować się do 2 kilogramów lub 16 stopni. Zostało zgłoszone do 52 cm długości. Nazwa naukowa oznacza pozbawiony zębów hoboid. Nazywa się też goldeye Winnipeg, western goldeye, żółty śledź, śledzie zębate, szarłat mooneye, la Queche, weepicheesis lub laquaiche auxuxux lub po francusku. Złoto jest uważane za dobrą rybę wędkarską, ale nie jest popularne wśród większości wędkarzy ze względu na niewielki rozmiar. Jest to jeden z 122 nowych gatunków zwierząt, ptaków, ryb udokumentowanych przez Korpus Odkrycia. Połowy komercyjne tego gatunku zgłoszono już w 1876 r.
