Sargassum
Sargassum jest rodzajem brązowego makrela w kolejności Fucales. Liczne gatunki rozmieszczone są w umiarkowanych i tropikalnych oceanach świata, gdzie zwykle znajdują się płytkie wody i rafy koralowe. Jednakże, rodzaj może być najlepiej znany ze swoich planktonicznych gatunków. Choć większość gatunków w ramach klasy Phaeophyceae to głównie organizmy zimnej wody, które korzystają z upływu substancji odżywczych, rodzaj Sargassum wydaje się być wyjątkiem od tej ogólnej reguły.
