Lagarostrobos franklinii jest gatunkiem drzew iglastych pochodzących z południowo-zachodniego naroża Tasmania w Australii; jest jedynym gatunkiem w Lagarostrobos; jeden inny gatunek L. colensoi poprzednio włączony został przeniesiony do nowego rodzaju Manoao. Rodzaj był również poprzednio włączony w szersze okręgi rodzaju Dacrydium. Lagarostrobos franklinii jest często znany jako sosna Huon lub sosna Macquarie, chociaż jest to podocarp, a nie prawdziwa sosna. Close-up z liści sosny Huon. Jest to powolne, ale długowieczne drzewo; niektóre żywe okazy tego drzewa przekraczają 2000 lat w wieku. Wzrasta do wysokości 10 do 20 m, wyjątkowo dochodząc do 30 m, z łukowymi gałęziami i wiszącymi odgałęzieniami. Liście są spiralnie rozmieszczone, bardzo małe i podobne do skali, o długości od 1 do 3 mm, obejmujące całkowicie pędy. Jest oddzielna, z samcami i żebrami stożkowymi na oddzielnych roślinach. Stożki męskie są żółte, o długości od 5 do 8 mm i szerokości od 1 do 2 mm. Starsze stożki nasion są bardzo zmodyfikowane, przypominające jagę, o od 5 do 10 luzów, otwarte łuski, które dojrzewają w ciągu 6-8 miesięcy, z jednym nasionem 2 do 2.
