W biologii hybryda jest potomkiem dwóch zwierząt lub roślin różnych ras, ras, odmian, gatunków lub rodzajów. Korzystając z terminologii genetyki, można ją zdefiniować następująco. ▪ Ogólnie rzecz biorąc, hybryda jest synonimem heterozygotycz- nego: dowolnego potomstwa wynikającego z hodowli dwóch osobników o odmiennych cechach genetycznych. ▪ hybrydowa hybryda posiada dwa różne allele tego samego genu. ▪ Strukturalne hybrydowe skutki łączenia gamet o różnej strukturze w co najmniej jednego chromosomu, w wyniku nieprawidłowości strukturalnych, • liczby hybrydowych wynika z fuzji gamet o różnej liczbie haploidów chromosomów, • stałym hybrydem jest sytuacja, w której występuje tylko genotyp heterozygiczny, ponieważ wszystkie kombinacje homozygotyczne są śmiertelne. Z perspektywy taksonomicznej hybryda odnosi się do: ▪ potomstwa wynikającego z rozmnażania się między dwoma gatunkami zwierząt lub gatunkami roślin.
