Hyperborea
W mitologii greckiej Hyperboreans (starożytna greka: Ὑπερβόρε (ι) οι, wymawiane, łacina: Hyperborei) byli mitycznymi ludźmi, którzy żyli "poza północnym wiatrem". Grecy myśleli, że Borys, bóg północnego wiatru (jeden z Anemoi lub "Wiatr") mieszkał w Tracji, a zatem Hyperborea wskazuje na region leżący daleko na północ od Tracji. Ta ziemia miała być idealna, a słońce świeciło 24 godziny na dobę, co do współczesnych uszu sugeruje możliwość położenia w kręgu arktycznym. Możliwe jest jednak, że Hyperborea w ogóle nie ma żadnej fizycznej lokalizacji, gdyż według klasycznego greckiego poety Pindara ani statkiem, ani pieszo nie można było znaleźć cudownej drogi do zgromadzenia hiperborejczyków. Pindar opisał także cudowną doskonałość hiperborejczyków: Nigdy Muse nie ma na ich drodze: liry zderzają się z płaczem i wszędzie kręcące się koły chórki. Ani choroba, ani gorzka starość nie mieszają się w ich świętej krwi; daleko od pracy i walki, w której żyją.
